James Lehner, MD: CURRICULUM VITAE

Personal Background

Dr. Lehner was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended the University of Notre Dame for his pre-med education and obtained his medical degree at Ohio State University. He finished his orthopaedic residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1978 and completed a scoliosis fellowship at the Kosair Crippled Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Since returning to Dayton in 1979, he has been active on the faculty at Wright State University School of Medicine. He has been an attending orthopaedic surgeon at the Myelomeningocele Clinic for 25 years and the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic for 22 years. His pediatric practice includes an extensive number of patients with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Lehner has a large adult practice of spinal problems including scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis, disc herniations, tumors, infections and degenerative problems of the spine as well as spine fractures. He has written a number of articles with a focus on scoliosis and spinal deformity. He has a great interest in transfusion medicine and in June 2004 assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of the Community Blood Center in Dayton. He has been Chief of Staff at the Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio and is just finishing a four-year term as the head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Miami Valley Hospital.

He is also involved in many community activities including being a junior high track coach for 19 years and is currently a high school track official. He has been married for over 30 years to Peggy, who is active in politics and her community. They have five children and are blessed with many grandchildren.
